Vectis Model Train Sale at the Benn Hall, Rugby, 24 July 2010
Hailed as an auction of outstanding quality, the Vectis Model Train Sale on Saturday 24th July at the Benn Hall, Rugby didn't let us down.
Almost 800 lots went under the hammer with all but 9 lots being sold. A good contingent in the room and a host of live internet and telephone bidders.

The front cover of the printed catalogue showed a Trix Twin 3-rail pre-war 4-6-2 LMS maroon and gold Streamlined Coronation Class Loco No.6220 from the "Coronation" Presentation Set 2/347 (Lot 3356) which also included 3 x maroon and gold Passenger Coaches, all contained in a blue felt lined wooden presentation case with TTR Bassett-Lowke scale models decal to the inside of the lid,witha pre-sale estimate of £800 - £1000, sold for £1500.
From the same private owner collection lot 3363 Trix Twin 3-rail Pre-war unboxed 7/530 0-4-0 London Transport maroon livery Electric Loco No.19, a very rare loco sold for £600 and the following lot Trix Express 3-rail Pre-war 2556 4-4-0 SNCF brown livery Nord Loco No.68374, another rare Loco and the first of its kind we have sold, price realised £1100.
A record price at a Vectis Auction was achieved when lot 3155 Hornby Dublo 3-rail EDP2 Passenger Train Set containing 4-6-2 LMS maroon Princess Coronation Class Loco No.6231 'Duchess of Atholl' sold for a mega price of £2300. A super set and one of the best we've seen. From the same vendor lot 3151 Hornby Dublo 3-rail EDL1/D1 4-6-2 LNER blue A4 Class Loco No.7 'Sir Nigel Gresley', boxed with lid dated 6/48 sold for £770, one of the best prices we've got for a post-war Gresley.

In the Hornby O Gauge section lot 3592 a rare Sand Cab 4-6-2 Loco and Tender LMS maroon 'Princess Elizabeth' No.6201, 20v Electric, had some expert restoration to the cab roof on one edge, nevertheless sold for £2600. 2 rare Hornby 0 Gauge export SBB/CFF (Swiss Market) No. 0 Passenger Coaches sold for £800 and £700.
Another 'Princess Elizabeth' locomotive and tender, this time by Bassett-Lowke, LMS maroon No.6201, 3-rail electric, in Bassett-Lowke box sold for £3100.
The 82 lots of G Gauge Garden Railway and modern Marklin Gauge 1 all proved popular with both British and European buyers. There will be further sections of LGB in the next Rugby Train sale on Saturday 18th September.
